Matthew Courchine

When I look back at my life, I don't want to just say that I lived life, but that I also made an impact around me no matter where I went. I have always had a heart for serving others and have always enjoyed jobs that require time and effort. I did my DTS IN January of 2021 and haven't left since. The reason why I chose to stay in YWAM is because when my school ended it didn't feel like my time there was done, but only getting started.
Just in case you were wondering what YWAM DTS is, it is a six-month program blending classroom learning, small group activities, personal reflection, practical service, and community living. Most often, the training comes in two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. The six months changed my life forever. I was really able to learn and get a strong and sturdy foundation. There were things that I had to let go of and mentalities that had to change. I was also able to learn so much about the bible and open my horizon on different ways to do things. We were able to serve the community and were able to learn how to meet many various kinds of needs. Then, when I went on my Outreach I went to South Africa.
What I am going to be doing for the foreseeable future is first this summer I will be taking a bible school that will really help me be able to have more tools to help me understand the bible more. In this school we are going to be diagramming scriptures to dig deep into the meaning of the text. Then, after the course, I plan on going to South Africa in the fall to do a Community development school. There I will learn effective ways to be able to best help the communities wherever I go, whether that is here in America or in another country. One of the main reasons why I will be taking this course is because I will be bringing back this school and me and someone else from the base will be teaching it at the YWAM North Cascades base where I will be teaching the school for the next five to ten years. After each school, we will be going overseas, and we will be helping the communities we go to in the best way possible that they will be able to understand so when we leave they can continue. We are teaching how to fish with what they know instead of bringing them fish and not having a clue what to do after we leave.
It is not going to be possible without your support. I promise you whatever you give monthly will be well worth it and will be one of the best investments you have ever made.
Even if you can't give now it's never too late to give in the future.
